Sandakan : More than 2,000 faithful thronged St Mary's Cathedral during Holy Thursday, 2nd April 2015. It marks the beginning of the sacred 'Triduum' which stresses on the humility of service and emphasizes the crucial importance of the Eucharist, the sacrifice of Christ's Body which we now find present in the consecrated Host. It celebrates the institution of the Eucharist as the true body and blood of Jesus Christ and the institution of the sacrament of the priesthood.

ST. MARY'S CATHEDRAL SANDAKAN

Fr Thomas Makajil, rector of St Mary's Cathedral in his homily said, 'Today we remember the Last supper of our Lord. He gave Himself as food for our soul. The Eucharist is a celebration that brings us back to the present liturgy. It is very fundamental in our tradition that gives us the reality that Jesus desired for us to remember the institution of the Eucharist that is the source and summit of our Christian life.'
At the conclusion of the Mass, the faithful were invited to continue Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament throughout the night, just as the disciples were invited to stay up with the Lord during His agony in the garden before His betrayal by Judas.
