Chrism Mass : A Renewal of Priestly Promises

Sandakan: The Chrism Mass was finally celebrated this year. The celebration was unable to be celebrated due to pandemic Covid - 19 which hit the world by storm beginning March 2020. The reduced number of cases in the recent updates had allowed the reopening of the church and other places of worship by the government and taking all necessary precautions especially strictly adhering to the SOP.

The Chrism Mass at St. Mary Cathedral, Sandakan was held on 24th March 2021.  Rt Rev Julius Dusin Gitom, the Bishop of Sandakan presided at the Mass, concelebrated by all the seven priests of the Diocese, Fr Thomas Makajil, Fr Simon Kontou, Fr Phillip Muji, Fr David Garaman, Fr Stanley William Matakim, Fr Christopher Ireneus, and Fr Dafrinn Diwol. Msgr Nicholas Ong and Fr Marcellinus Pongking unable to join due to their health condition. However, the mass was merrier with the presents of three deacons, Deacon Stephen Esguerra, Deacon Andy Borine, and Deacon Arthur John.

In his homily, Bishop Julius Gitom recalled back last year’s liturgical especially Sunday Eucharist and other celebrations conducted not in the normal way such as the celebrations of the sacrament of Baptism, Marriages, Holy Orders, etc. and even the ordination being postponed. This pandemic has also restricted all activities such as reaching out to the sick, to the elderly, to the dying, and even going to the hospital. Hopefully, this year our church can celebrate the sacraments in the normal way.

However, this pandemic had open opportunities such as online business, online courses, online meetings, and also online masses. With this, millions of the faithful had joined the virtual Sunday mass or other prayer opportunities at the same time. We are in union with the whole Catholics in the world.

His Lordship Bishop Julius Dusin Gitom hopes that all parishioners continue to be committed to God by receiving the Bread of Life and supporting all the priests.

“We should always be thankful to God for the life that Christ had given to us. The Vision and Mission belong to God, but we are as children of God should live out the Vision and Mission and continue the ministry of the church.”

After the homily, all priest received their blessings from Bishop Julius Dusin Gitom in celebration of their priesthood and also reaffirms their ministry by renewing the promises made at their ordination.

After the blessing, Bishop Dusin Gitom blessed the Oil of Anointing of the Sick, Oil for Catechumens, and the oil of the Consecration of the Chrism. The oils will be used in the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Orders and the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.

PELANCARAN TAHUN SANTO YOSEF DI PAROKI ST. MARTIN, TELUPID

TELUPID - Tahun Santo Yosef telah diisytiharkan oleh Sri Paus Fransiskus bermula 8 Disember 2020 sehingga 8 Disember 2021. Bersesuaian dengan perayaan pesta St. Yosef yang jatuh pada 19 Mac 2021, Keuskupan Sandakan secara rasminya telah melancarkan Tahun St. Yosef di peringkat diosis bertemakan “Perlihatkan dirimu sebagai bapa, dan bimbinglah jalan kehidupan kami”. Bagi peringkat paroki pula, Misa Kudus Solemniti diadakan sebagai memperingati St. Yosef sebagai pelindung gereja diselebrankan oleh Rev. Fr. Christopher Ireneus. Umat yang hadir terlebih dahulu mengikuti ibadat jalan salib pada pukul 6.30 petang disusuli dengan perayaan ekaristi.

Diakon Andy Borine membacakan surat Apostolik Paus Fransiskus “Patris Corde” - Peringatan 150 Santo Yosef tahun Pemakluman Sebagai Pelindung Gereja Semesta.

Pada awal perayaan misa kudus, Diakon Andy Borine telah membacakan surat Apostolik Paus Fransiskus “Patris Corde” - Peringatan 150 tahun Pemakluman Santo Yosef Sebagai Pelindung Gereja Semesta. Dalam surat tersebut, Paus Fransiskus menggambarkan peribadi Santo Yosef sebagai seorang pencinta, lembut dan penuh kasih, taat, menerima serta berani secara kreatif yang dapat dijadikan teladan. Situasi pandemik yang berlaku masa kini menjadi sumber inspirasi dalam surat tersebut bahawa kesabaran itu akan memberikan pengharapan. Sejurus selepas itu, gimik perasmian pelancaran tahun St. Yosef disempurnakan oleh paderi paroki.

Rev. Fr. Christopher Ireneus dalam homilinya mengajak umat untuk mengenal lebih dekat tentang St. Yosef. Dalam alkitab, tidak banyak cerita mengenai St. Yosef yang dapat dibaca namun jika direnungkan, peranannya sangat besar dalam kisah penyelamatan kita.

“St. Yosef merupakan bapa kepada Yesus yang telah menjaga keluarganya serta membimbing Yesus dalam kehidupannya. Kisah-kisah St. Yosef dalam Injil ini dapat dikaitkan dengan peranan seorang ayah dalam keluarga yang sanggup menghadapi segala cabaran dan dugaan dalam menjadi ketua keluarga yang bertanggungjawab untuk membimbing dan melindungi keluarga. Bagi diri sendiri pula, apakah yang dapat dilakukan untuk menghayati dan menyedari peranan St. Yosef dalam kehidupan keluarga kita?”

Gimik selesai dilancarkan

Justeru, siapa pun kita, sebagai seorang ayah, ibu mahupun anak cabaran tetap ada. Namun, kerana iman, kekuatan dan kepercayaan kepada Allah, seperti St. Yosef yang mampu melakukannya, demikian juga kita boleh menjadi seperti dia. Seiring dengan pelancaran tahun St. Yosef, kita juga perlu sentiasa merenung akan kehidupannya dan berdoa untuk kehidupan kita sendiri. Melalui hubungan dengan Tuhan, kita akan dikuatkan untuk menghadapi apa jua yang direncanakan untuk kita.

Perayaan misa kudus diakhiri dengan penyerahan poster Tahun St. Yosef kepada semua kapela di paroki St. Martin, Telupid yang diwakili oleh Katekis Wilfred A. Pain selaku Pengerusi Komiti Katekis.
