SANDAKAN - Family Day And Feast Day Of St. Joseph The Worker

Article and photos by Terrence Ngui
Sandakan : The English Sunday School held its family day today, 1st May 2014, beginning with Holy Mass at 8.00am in St. Mary’s Cathedral. It has been a few years since this was held.

Fr. Philip Anthony Muji presided the Eucharistic Celebration, though celebrating the Family Day, it was also in celebration of the Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker. Despite the “early” hour, it being a public holiday, it was heartening to note that most parents made an attempt to attend the celebration along with other parishioners.
The English Sunday School organized the entire Eucharistic Celebration and the students participated as reader, wardens, altar servers, cantor as well as the choir. The Isak family brought forward the gift for the offertory.
Fr. Philip in his homily reiterated that the family remains the community of faith reflecting the Trinitarian God. He further stressed that parents are the first teachers for their kids’ faith formation.
Right after the Eucharistic Celebration, Fr. Philip joined the families and students in the Parish Hall for breakfast fellowship and games. It was indeed a joyous celebration with parents participating in the games .
