Tony Wee of AOHD gives a talk on Integral Human Development

Sandakan : Tony Wee, the Executive Secretary of the Archdiocesan Office for Human Development (AOHD) Kuala Lumpur gave a talk on Integral Human Development to some 30 participants from the four parishes of the Diocese of Sandakan on Saturday, 20th March 2010 at the Diocesan Meeting Room.

The aim of the sharing session is to create an awareness among the participants the need to form the Parish Integral Human Development Ministry (PIHDMs) and the eventual setting up of the Diocesan Office of Human Development (DOHD) to coordinate the activities of the various existing caring ministries.

It is the goal of Jesus' mission as in Isaiah 61:1-2 to bring good news to the afflicted, soothe the broken -hearted,  proclaim liberty to the captives and release those in prison. It is with this, that the diocese and parishes ought to establish DOHD and PIHDMs respectively to continue the mission set forth by Jesus.

The session  included :

• LCD presentation on the Catholic Social Teaching
• Run down on the Catholic Social Teaching
• Translating the Catholic Social Teaching into actions
• Set up of DOHD/PIDHMs
• A summary of the relevant social encyclicals
• AOHD - Structure and Organization / Difficulties and problems
• Question and answer session

In summing up, Tony Wee shared, 'I believe as Church, we do not exist for ourselves only but for the world. We need to look beyond to reach out and touch the hearts of those who are in need.'
