The 1st Get-Together for the New Line-Up of St Mary's Cathedral PYA Team

DSst
SANDAKAN : Of the seventy-eight names nominated last year to be part of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish Youth Apostolate (PYA) team,  fourteen from the various youth groups were chosen  - "For many are called, but few are chosen" - Matthew 22:14. On Saturday, 23rd of March 2013 a whole-day formation was conducted at the Diocesan Youth Office for the chosen few. Half of the potential leaders made it to the day's programme. That number of young people is enough to make things moving and going for we all believe, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them" - Matthew 18:20.
The first session, shared by Sister Lilian Unsoh FSIC touched on "Apostolate". The apostles were chosen not because they are without faults or with extra ordinary skills, but God choose them with a purpose and He selected regular people to carry out His exceptional plan. God can use anyone to help Him in His work. We should also remember that the highest calling in life is serving God. No matter what the world say, money, fame and power cannot compare with being a follower of Jesus Christ. The fourteen young people that has been chosen are normal youths from various groups, but God made them special and are called to serve the other young people in St. Mary's Cathedral Parish.
Anna, the Coordinator of the Diocesan Youth Apostolate gave a run down to the history of the Diocesan Youth Apostolate (DYA) and the Parish Youth Apostolate (PYA) ~ its establishment, its journey and its struggles. It was a very informative sharing for all of us.
The last session was given by Bro. Bell regarding "relationship" where he explained the five stages of relationship a person will experience. The stages are, no committed relationship (basi-basi), trying to get near(cuba mendekati), relationship based on mental and emotion and last but not least, happiness (bahagia) which is Christ centered and understanding of each other. In a relationship, we will go through each stage and therefore we must always bear in mind that in order to remain happy in the community or among our friends we must always learn to give and take.
Before calling it a day, the team decided to have another get-together on 26th April with the theme, "I have a dream". It was a long but fruitful day for all of us.

"I am destined to be here and I am pleased to know each and everyone of you. I hope in the future, we can become a team that can bring the youth in St. Mary's Cathedral Parish together without judging or being judged by the others"
