Introduction - YouthPrepLink Level 1

SANDAKAN : YouthPREPLink is a program initiated by the Good Shepherd Welfare Center (PKGS) in 2005. The program aims to bring more awareness to the youths in rural areas to face and address the social and cultural realities experienced in the community when they migrate from rural to urban areas in search of work and to further their studies. The program has been organized twice in the Diocese of Sandakan in Our Lady of Fatima, Beluran one of the sub-parish under St Mary's Cathedral, Sandakan. Looking at the needs of the youths, the Diocesan Campus Ministry felt that there is a need to continue with the program. Members of the Campus Ministry and those who had graduated from batch 1 and 2 will be organizing the batch 3 of YouthPREPLink. The target groups for this program are the youths who have completed their SPM and STPM as most of them will further their studies in bigger cities like Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Baru and etc.

The 7-day program will be held  on 1st to 7th of April 2013 at St. Mary's Cathedral. The topics to be covered during the camp are Self-Discovery, Stages of Life, Transition, Youth Migration and City Living, Globalization and Media Literacy, Sexuality, Pre-Marital Sex : A Generation at Risk, Healthy Boys and Girls Relationship, Consumerism and Environment and Psycho - Spiritual Aspect. Some of the topics are considered a taboo, usually not talked about or discussed at home. Therefore, we find it very important to share about the issues so that the youths are aware and are ready to face whatever challenges they may encounter when they are away from their families. 
At the end of the camp, the youths will be more aware of themselves, their situation and can make wise choices when they are living independently and away from their families, always standing firm in the faith.
