Bishop Julius Commits Assistance to Chapels

BY DS

Bundu Tuhan : Some two months ago, 5th June 2015 a 5.9-magnitude earthquake rocked the  State of Sabah at and around Mount Kinabalu. The calamity claimed many lives and caused damages to roads and properties. Subsequent tremors aggravated the situation. The event saddened all of us.
When news got round that there was insufficient of drinking water and daily provisions to go around through an appeal from the Parish Priest of St Claver's Church, Ranau, Fr Nicholas Stephen, Catholic faithful all over responded positively and above all  overwhelmingly. People were moved to contribute. All the four parishes in the Diocese of Sandakan mobilized themselves, collected and send loads of bottled drinking water and provisions to the Church for those in need.

Accompanying Bishop Julius was Fr Michael Modoit, the Rector of the Parish. The three chapels are badly affected by the quake and tremors. They need to be repaired and restored urgently.

The money has been forwarded to the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu for onward distribution to the three affected chapels. through St Pius X Parish of Bundu Tuhan. This gesture connects us to others with broader needs. It opens the door in building solidarity beyond our diocesan boundaries.
The Diocesan Human Development Commission would like to thank all generous parishioners for their kind donations.
