SENIOR CITIZEN'S DAY ~ YOU ARE CARED FOR AND TREASURED

Julita, SOCCOM Tawau

Tawau : As a loving community of God, the Pastoral Care Group of Holy Trinity Parish Tawau, organized a momentous event for all senior citizens aged 60 and above. The joyful and memorable gathering was held on 28th September 2013 at the Parish Canteen, a day set aside to honor our senior citizens of the church who we dearly love and cherish. It is  a gesture of our gratitude for all that they had done, their significant contribution in enriching the community.

We don't retire from Church work. We are still very much involve in church activity.
Beginning at 11.00 in the morning, some 90 senior citizens of various races and cultures participated in the event accompanied by their children and some grandchildren .
The fellowship began with an opening prayer followed by a brief sharing by Msgr. Nicholas Ong, touching on the life journey of human being. He said, "We are as what we are. In the past you have contributed so much towards your present generation, and sometime we might wonder what we have passed on to our children  especially on spiritual value. I believe that through your participation in today’s event where you are accompanied by your children, is proof that the culture of love and care is rooted in their hearts."
He reminded the senior citizens to remain faithful to the giver of life, Jesus Christ himself. He went on to say, "Always give praise and thanks for the many blessings that He has granted you as a father or as a mother and most of all the gift of the children that you have. Keep healthy and remain happy."
This yearly event is organized to ensure that senior citizens are not isolated from the community. It is also an opportune occasion to spend time with old friends, chatting away of old times and the present. We have a responsibility towards one another especially towards the senior folks.
Most participants were actively involved in the church when they were young. They had contributed and achieved tremendously for the families, the communities and the Church. Some are still serving  the church faithfully until today either as an individual or as couple.
Though the fellowship was simple but the close relationship among them showed that everyone is a child of God. The food and fun event ended at 1.00 in the afternoon.
