Tawau : Nearly 80 members of the Catholic Women's Apostolate of Holy Trinity Parish Tawau, together with their children and some invited parishioners gathered at the Parish Canteen on Sunday, 12th May 2012 after the Sunset Mass to celebrate Mothers' Day.
Fr David Garaman, the assistant rector who presided over the mass shared in his homily that, 'Love is the gist of the first commandment that God calls upon His people to live lives anchored on love, for the fruit of love is forgiveness and through forgiveness we will experience peace of mind. God’s love is not only for human being but all the beautiful things that He had created. We are to become His witnesses by living faithfully, loving God, loving one another and loving oneself.'
He continued to say that, 'We must remain faithful to God according to our call. As a priest I must be faithful to Him, God the Father according to what a priest is called to do. So married couples, you must be faithful to your partner/ spouse at all times for every marriage comes from the hand of God. The love between the spouses symbolizes Christ's love for the Church.'
At the end of his homily, Fr. David wished all mothers a 'Blessed and Happy Mothers' Day.' Let every child give honor to his / her mother not just on this day set aside for mothers but on everyday of one's life.
After Mass all CWA members and invited parishioners proceeded to the Parish Canteen for gathering and fellowship. Members of CWA had much earlier prepared the venue and the food as well as some entertainment items for the occasion. Unity and teamwork is much prevalent in the apostolate, keeping them moving in providing service to the Church and the community.
Fr. David in his speech during the gathering said that, 'We are very blessed for having Mother Mary as our inspiration, an obedient Mother to God.' He called on all mothers to imitate Mother Mary specially her faithfulness to God by accepting and doing God's will, living a life full of patience, humility and relying on God’s strength. He urged each and all present to live life base on the Holy Family of Nazareth, Joseph, Mary and Jesus. Family that prays together stays together.
The gathering was memorable as it was a tribute to all mothers who had devoted all their lives to bring love and care to light not merely to their children but to the Church and society at large.
