Sharing Jesus’ Love Unconditionally

By Susanna Cordova

Sandakan : Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Catholic students were showered again with Jesus’ love when the Star of Yahweh Covenant Community (SYCC) warmly welcomed and feted them to a luncheon fellowship and gathering  on Sunday, 6th September. SYCC is doing its bit to bring Jesus to others especially to those who may encounter difficulty in organizing faith formation session in their institutions.

Thirty-six students and two teachers-in-charge attended the fellowship at the Parish Hall right after the Sunday morning Eucharistic celebration at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The students were served with light refreshment, continued with the Gospel reading and praise and worship led by the SYCC youth. The Good News proclaimed was wonderful and uplifting as it would re-energize the youth. Indeed, the Gospel (Mark 7:21-37) tells us to go forth, preach and bear witness, be proud and eager to share the truths of Christ.
Rev. Fr. Sunny Chung, the assistant rector of St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish shared with joy about  the “Lordship of Jesus.” He asked the students, “What do you feel when you see Jesus in suffering?”  “What do you feel when you see Jesus who has the power to perform miracles?” and “Who is Jesus to you?”

He emphasized that Jesus is seeking for us. He wants to draw us to Him. Jesus is the all-powerful God who became man as in John 8 : 19, “I am who I am” reflecting Himself as God. Obviously, our faith is based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. He also encouraged the students to have the courage to change what the world may not be able to change. He quoted the late John Paul II requesting youths to be agent of change. Thus, we are called to be bearers of the Good News to others through our words and actions in our daily life.
Bro. Spinster Ngayen, who studied in UITM Shah Alam,Selangor and was actively involved in Catholic students’ activity. shared on his personal experience on ‘Campus Life.’ He described that campus life is also part of God’s calling. He said God called us because He has a purpose for our life. We know how God is calling us when we have a personal relationship with Him as well as experiencing God’s love. The opportunity that students have now is more of God’s gift. Therefore, consistent prayer should be practiced among students so that they could strengthen their faith and create a good bond with God by reading the bible often.
After the sharing sessions, students were provided lunch and refreshment. The coming together provided a platform for the students to interact with the local parishioners, making them feel more at home. Towards the end of the activity, the elders prayed over the students.
