Tawau : Holy Trinity Parish, in the eastern most of the Diocese of Sandakan comprises a diversity of communities viz; KadazanDusun and Muruts, Chinese, Filipinos and Indonesians. The communities blended well as one big parish community.
The Filipino Pastoral Committee, on 16th September 2015 organized a 'Family Day' at the Basement Hall from 7.00 am to 4.00 pm. More than 300 members of the Filipino community participated in the event.
Msgr.
Nicholas Ong, the rector, his assistant Fr. Johnny Raju and lay leaders from other
communities as well as individual parishioners came along to lend support to FPC.
This is the fourth FPC Family Day. Rufino Pontilas, the Chairman of FPC shared that such activity helps build a strong relationship bond among members of the community. The get-together is an opportunity to provide space for members to develop a strong sense of belonging, concern and care for each
other. It is a good platform to build up teamwork among the committee and to scout for younger members to commit themselves to serve in the community and the church.
The event began with an Opening Prayer followed with Praise and Worship. The children, the youth and the adults participated in the vibrant aerobic dance, warming up activity.
The teamwork and support from each member had brightened the
day. The flow of event was smooth. All members, especially the children had a wonderful time, enjoying the company of one another, a beautiful way to build up friendship.
There were the 'Explore Race,' Filipino traditional games, Tug of War and above all a luncheon fellowship. Good interaction through games and sharing food together is a community building activity, it binds people together. The activity ended at 4.00 pm with a Closing Prayer
and cleaning up of the venue.
