Sandakan : Youth Leaders' Camp (YLC), designed for youth leaders in the Diocese of Sandakan is usually held in the early part of the year. A follow-up program called YLC Club, held twice a year is meant for youth leaders who have attended previous YLC to meet up, listen and to share their experiences during their journey as youth leaders in the church.
St Martin's Church, Telupid
It is also a platform for them to strengthen and refresh their faith and enrich their personal relationship with Jesus. It is a joint program between the Diocesan Youth Apostolate and the Parish Youth Apostolate.
The essence of the YLC Club this time is based on the gist of Bishop Julius' message to the young leaders during YLC-3 held in St. Dominic, Lahad Datu; a call to be effective and authentic young Christian leaders. This follow-up will allow the youth leaders to reflect and share their joys and sorrows in serving their peers in their parish. After listening to their sharings and their needs, the Diocesan Youth Office will map out the program for YLC-4 scheduled on 25th February to 1st March 2015 at St Martin's Church, Telupid.
Some thirty youths from Tungku, Felda and Kunak participated the YLC Club on 13th and 14th September 2014 at St. Gabriel Tungku, Lahad Datu. While some twenty youths from Telupid attended the YLC Club at St. Martin's Church, Telupid on 27th and 28th September 2014.
The program commenced with a welcoming session followed by a brief introduction about YLC by the local youth leaders. Ice breakers in the form of interactive games helped the youths to keep away from sticking to their own circle of friends and to mingle around with the other youths from other chapels / outstations.
In the following session, the young leaders were asked to reflect on Bishop Julius' message for YLC3. A few questions were asked to guide them to comprehend and deepen their understanding of the message. It was a wonderful time of sharing as most of the young leaders did not only share for the sake of sharing, but they shared everything that was in them. Most touched on the Eucharist, the family and the youths from their parish. Members built up relationship bond and team spirit, both elements necessary to drive the Parish Youth Apostoalte (PYA) forward.
The final session was the"Friendship Night" - a night dedicated to celebrate Jesus in our lives, the ministry and the friendship established throughout the day. It was a night to share the love of Jesus through friendship with the local youths.
YLC Club in Holy Trinity, Tawau and St. Mary's Cathedral, Sandakan will be held in the later part of October 2014.
