TUKAD of HTC Celebrates Harvest Festival

Tawau : The Kadazandusun/Murut Pastoral Community (TUKAD) of Holy Trinity Church, organized the Parish Level Harvest Festival Thanksgiving Mass on Sunday 8th  May 2011, presided over by assistant rector Fr. David A. Garaman concelebrated by the rector Msgr. Nicholas Ong .

This  yearly event was celebrated in communion with all the parishioners to thank God for all His blessings.
During his homily, Fr. David touched on the life as a good Christian. He urged the parishioners to be witnesses to others by a life style of simplicity, faithfulness, humility, thoughtfulness for others and thankfulness to God.
"Live our lives as models to our children thereby leading them deeper into their faith." He said.
"In addition, we should  live together with all other races as one big family, as God has no favorites. His son's death and resurrection is for everyone."

As the day was also Mothers' day, Fr. David also gave a special blessing to all the mothers after the conclusion of the mass.
In his address in the lunch fellowship at the parish hall after the mass, Msgr. Nicholas Ong has this to say,

"The Kadazan Dusun and Murut people celebrate Kaamatan yearly to express their gratitude to God for His abundant blessing for the year's good harvest.

Though celebrated as a tradition, Kaamatan has been adapted into our faith as it is all about thanking God."
Edward Nuing, chairman of TUKAD, in his speech said, 'It is important for the Kadazan Dusun and Murut people to know their identity, keep the tradition and treasure it. We should  live harmoniously with others as one Christ centered community'

PPC chairman Mario Domingo hoped that with the celebration's theme Mesra ( Kindness )/ Ceria ( Joy) / Melayani( Serving ), we would learn how to serve with joy and humility.
Attended by around 500 parishioners, the program included presentations and cake cutting by all the mothers, and ended at 3pm with closing prayer by Fr. David Garaman.
