Tawau: 24th June 2018, in
conjunction with the Feast of the Holy Trinity which falls on 27th May 2018, a
Parish Day cum Family Day was held despite its delay due to unforeseen
circumstances .
It was attended by more than
800 parishioners from various communities
gathered together to join the Eucharistic celebration, that was held on
Sunday at 8 in the morning, presided over by Msgr. Nicholas Ong and con celebrated
by Fr. Sunny Chung.
In his homily, Msgr. Nicholas
touched on the role of being the witness of Good News as he quoted from the
reading of Sunday’s Feast of St. John the Baptist: St. John is the one who has
prepared the way for the actual coming of the Messiah to all the Jews and the
pagan. So with you and all of us, we are expected to become the instrument of
Christ, to bring others to Him that we may all share His salvation.
In conjunction with the
celebration of this parish family day, Msgr. Nicholas also emphasized the
importance of unity regardless of status, race, language and culture. "For
us to be part of the salvation, we must live in communion with others. Be
united, and become the light of the world, the bearer of peace, shown in readily forgiving, accepting,
supporting one another, and having a genuine concern for each other. This
way Christ will live in our midst” he
said.
After the Eucharistic
celebration, all parishioners proceeded to the Parish Canteen for food Bazaar
and the Family Day celebration at the Parish Hall. A traditional dance from the
Indonesian community of St. Thomas Bombalai ushered the priests and the
community to the venue.
Program began with the opening
prayer by Mgsr. Nicholas Ong, followed by cake cutting ceremony together with
the priests, religious and PPC members. Thereafter, a 13 minutes video
presentation on the journey of the Holy Trinity Parish Tawau, prepared by the
HTC SOCCOM ministry. There were also few
presentations and games for the children, teens and the adults.
The joyful celebration showed
the openness of sharing the joy with each other regardless of race and
language. The interaction reflected the unity and friendship as One Big Family
in the Parish.
Celebration ended at 2.30 in
the afternoon with a closing prayer by Fr. Sunny Chung and cleaning the Parish
Hall.
