Sunday School (English) Year End Closing Concert

St Mary’s Parish, Sandakan: Having gone through the spiritual journey with the Sunday School children for 39 Sundays, we marked the end of another Sunday School year of learning about God’s word, his church, his saints, his sacraments, and commandment by having a Year End Closing Concert.  This year’s Sunday School (English Section) started on 7 January 2018 and the year was filled with a hoard of spiritual activities such as climbing Mount Marian while reciting the rosaries with the students, Bible Sunday, recollection for communicants, camps and retreats for the pre-confirmation and confirmation classes, celebration of First Holy Communion and soon, the Sacrament of Confirmation.

This closing programme was held on 19 November 2018, Monday evening. It was filled with fun and laughter which started with an icebreaking song by the Confirmands. Students with the best attendances for Sunday school were awarded trophies. Parents, families, religious sisters and guests were caught up in this event which involved the participation of all the children, from the Masters of Ceremony to the performances by every student according to their class levels. The highlight for the evening’s event was the Bible Characters and Religious Costume Competition. The participants' age ranges from 5 years to 9 years old and the characters portrayed amongst others was that of a Guardian Angel, Moses, King Gaspar, St. Ruth, Mother Mary, and Blessed Mother Teresa. Blessed Mother Teresa was represented by 5 years old, May Christine, who was the star for the evening as well as the winner for the costume competition.
