WALK FOR JESUS 2009

Sandakan: More than 2000 faithful from all member churches of the Sandakan Inter Church (SIC) assembled at the Grand Stand of the Municipal Council Town Padang, Sunday, 23rd August 2009 to participate in the biennial charity event ‘Walk For Jesus.’ The Walk truly manifested a show of solidarity among the various churches in town. The event was held simultaneously in 12 other towns in Sabah and another town in Sarawak.

The theme of this year’s Walk is ‘Righteousness exalts a nation.’ The aims and objectives of the Walk are;

  • Encourage the unity of the Body of Christ.

  • Encourage the people to pray for their nation, state, city and town.

  • Encourage fellowship between brothers and sisters in Christ.

  • Encourage active involvement and witnessing in the community.

The occasion was graced by Isaac Pang, the representative of YB Datuk V K Liew, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister Department. In his speech he urged fellow faithful to stand united in building up the faith Community and to play a proactive role in contributing to the progress of the nation in line with the One Malaysia concept. He urged all faithful to continue to pray for the well being of the nation, the state and the municipal and all the enforcement agencies as well as the community at large that all would prosper.

Also present in the events were Ir James Wong, the President of the Sandakan Municipal Council, KH Tan, representative of the Sabah Council of Churches (SCC) and pastors from the member churches of the Sandakan Inter Church (SIC).

The Chairman of the Sandakan Inter Church, Pastor Antonio Tang from the Calvary Church extended his appreciation to all who had contributed to the success of the event which saw an overwhelming turnout. The fund raised through the Walk will be channeled to the less fortunate through the various NGOs and FBOs especially the Prison Fellowship of Malaysia (Sabah) Ministry. He reminded the faithful that the focal point of being a Christian is to reach out to the poor, needy and the marginalized.

The Walk was flagged off by Isaac Pang. The participants walked through the main town, Harbor Square, Community Centre and ended at St Michael’s Church for a time of praise, worship and thanksgiving. The walk went on smoothly without any untoward incidents with the kind assistance of the police and the St John Ambulance.
