Biennial General Assembly of CWA

The St Mary’s Cathedral Parish Catholic Women’s Apostolate held their biennial general assembly on 21st June, 2009 at the Sandakan Diocesan Centre block of building. A total of 43 CWA members attended the said event. John Baptis, the Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council graced the occasion. In his opening speech, he commended the members of CWA for their concerted effort in contributing to the development of the Church. The ladies in blue are always seen involved in all major activities of the Church. They are always around in lending a hand which is very much in line with their motto ‘to serve one another with love.’ Also in attendance were Sr Appolonia Gumpu FSIC, the sister-in-charge and Sr Lilian Unsoh FSIC spiritual adviser to the apostolate.

John Baptist then went on to officially announce the dissolution of the CWA office bearers for the term of 2007~ 2009. The following were elected to hold office for the term of 2009~ 2011.

The newly elected chairlady, Mrs Roferda Marianno (popularly and fondly known as Ferdee) expressed her appreciation to the members for the confidence placed in her to lead the Parish CWA. She pledged to do her best and urged all members of the new line-up to work together for the glory o God.

双亲节

今天是世界性庆祝父亲节的日子。在这炎热的星期天，也是圣教会庆祝常年期第十二主日。主教Julius D. Gitom向在座的每一位父亲祝父亲节快乐。华文主日学便是择日于今天庆祝双亲节。弥撒后，全体主日学家长及学生便前往教会活动中心。目的是参与由华文主日学主办的双亲节庆典。
当家长们聚集后，在傅云荔姐妹做开始祈祷后，庆典便正式开始。司仪许凯星兄弟邀请华协顾问陈兴勋兄弟、华协主席锺学良兄弟和副主席邱观祥兄弟连同华文主日学校长伍文广兄弟和筹委会主席曾慧心姐妹一起切双亲节蛋糕。稍后与全体兄弟姐妹一起欢唱“世上只有爸妈好”。而锺学良兄弟也应司仪的邀请向出席的家长和孩子们勉励一两句话及做餐前祈祷。祈祷后，众人前往食堂享用已准备好的自由式早餐。
丰富的早餐提供了足够的热量，这使众人都充满了活力。期待已久的游戏继锺学良兄弟的致词后开始。第一个游戏是由钟书霓姐妹主持。这游戏称“爸妈我爱你”。游戏只限于五组，每组是由一位爸爸或妈妈和一位孩子参加。在主持人的领导下，孩子们便开始用汤匙拿取摆在面前的红豆。然后，便用嘴巴衔住汤匙给在后旁的爸爸或妈妈，让他们接过汤匙后，便把红豆贴在已准备好的“ IYU ”字条上。最快贴完的两组将获得礼物。第二项游戏是由陈欣儿姐妹主持。这是一项众人知晓的“二人三足” 游戏。可是，主办单位在这游戏中附加了问答题，使这游戏变得更刺激和精彩。一共八组由爸爸或妈妈和一位孩子踊跃参加。主办单位在限定的位置贴了“对”和“错”，当主持人发问问题，每组需要确认答案是否对或错。然后，以二人三足竞赛方式往对或错的位置前进。短暂而快乐的亲子游戏接近尾声了。在颁发了奖品后，司仪便邀请杨玉娟姐妹做结束祈祷。双亲节于上午十时结束。
