Catholic Student Movement (CSM) of SMK Konven St Cecilia Organizes a Spiritual Camp

Sandakan : During the school academic year of 2015, various efforts have been undertaken to enhance learning and improve academic performance. The response was very encouraging. It is equally important that students develop a balanced growth, spiritually, emotionally and physically. In the light of that, the Christian Student Movement (CSM) took the initiative to organize an interactive activity for the Christian students of SMK Convent St.Cecilia.

The 2-day annual CSM Camp, themed, “It is I, be not afraid”(Matthew 14:27) was held on 11^th-12^th July 2015 at SMK Konven St Ceciia. The event was coordinated by Jamini Francis, the teacher-in-charge of the said movement. A total of 78 participants, including representatives from the Chinese Christian Group participated in the camp. The event was graced by Rev Fr Thomas Makajil, the rector of St Mary's Catholic Cathedral.

The camp is aimed at uplifting the spirit among students to stay strong while faced with tribulations in life in line with the theme. It is also an opportune occasion for Christian teachers and students to renew and refocus on their spiritual standing. The camp is an excellent platform to promote interaction and build up solidarity among believers.

At the Opening Ceremony, Mr. Soo Tian Hock the principal of SMK Konven St Cecilia gave a welcoming address. This was followed by the official opening and blessings by Fr Thomas Makajil. Madam Cecilia Polo, the Chairlady of the School Board of Governors (SBOG), presented a token to the priest. The event was sponsored by the SBOG.

The session of the day began with the Bahasa Malaysia spiritual input session facilitated by Mr. Adaris Moses Sintan in the morning and Puan Lena Petrus in the afternoon. Both are enthusiastic speakers from St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral. Pastor Fiona from the Calvary Church and Pastor Amos from SBC Church conducted the Chinese spiritual input session in the morning and afternoon respectively. The activity of the day was dubbed 'Explorace' and ended with 'Agape' in the evening.

For the second day, praise and worship was conducted by Ps Julios Ubara from Seventh-day-Adventist Church. The activity continued with sharing by students and the camp concluded at 4.30pm. The closing ceremony was graced by the school principal, Mr. Soo.

Puan Jamini Francis, the teacher-in-charge of the Christian Student Movement expressed her sincere appreciation and gratitude to God Almighty for His abundant blessings and to all the wonderful participants for their unwavering effort in making the camp a memorable event. She also thanked the School Principal, the SBOG, all dedicated CSM teachers and all individuals who had supported and contributed to the event.

Perayaan Hari Paroki St. Dominic Ke-63

Lahad Datu : Pesta Hari Paroki St Dominic, Lahad Datu yang ke-63 telah dirayakan pada Ahad 9hb Ogos 2015. Suasana Gereja St Dominic dan persekitarannya dihiasi berwarna-warni sesuai dengan perayaan hari penting bagi Paroki St. Dominic.

Rt Rev Julius Dusin Gitom, Bapa Uskup, Keuskupan Sandakan telah merayakan Misa Kesyukuran Hari Paroki St. Dominic yang ke-63, bersama Rev Fr Simon Kontou, rektor Gereja St Dominic, Fr. Marcellinus Pongking, pembantu rektor dan Deacon Stanley William Matakim. Para umat yang memenuhi ruang dalam dan luar gereja yang sama-sama memainkan peranan dalam menjayakan perayaan Pesta Hari Paroki ini mencerminkan kesatuan yang erat sebagai satu komuniti yang utuh.

Pewartaan Injil dipetik dari Injil Yohanes 6 : 41- 51, di mana bacaan tersebut mengingatkan kita bahawa barangsiapa yang percaya akan Dia akan memperoleh hidup yang kekal kerana hanya Dialah roti kehidupan dunia. Bapa Uskup Julius menyarankan bahawa sebagai satu keluarga yang besar, dalam perjalanan iman kita, sudah pasti ada suka dukanya, ada yang membanggakan dan ada yang kurang menggembirakan. Oleh itu, inilah kesempatan kita untuk memperbaiki kelemahan dan memperkukuhkan kekuatan demi mengolah langkah maju ke hadapan. Segalanya tentu dapat dicapai asalkan kita percayakan kepadaNya.

Pada akhir misa, sdra Patrick Chong, Pengerusi penganjur Hari St. Dominic turut diberikan kesempatan untuk memberikan sepatah dua kata. Beliau mengalu-alukan kehadiran semua umat khususnya Bapa Uskup Julius yang sudi meluangkan masa bersama umat St Dominic. Kehadiran Uskup Julius adalah satu perangsang bagi semua umat setempat.

Seterusnya, Rev Fr Simon Kontou selaku Rektor Paroki dalam ucapannya berkata bahawa beliau sangat berbesar hati atas penyertaan dan sokongan padu para umat yang datang dari jauh dan dekat. Beliau amat bangga dengan usahasama umat dalam persediaan dan persiapan perayaan Pesta Hari Paroki kali ini.

Menurut Bapa Uskup pula dalam ucapan beliau, keunikan Keuskupan Sandakan adalah kepelbagaian kaum yang menjadi identiti kita. Namun bagaimanapun, ia tidak menghalang kita untuk berjalan bersama sebagai satu keluarga yang besar di dalam iman Yesus Kristus. Beliau turut percaya pembentukan komuniti-komuniti kecil seperti KKD merupakan salah satu intipati penting untuk gereja terus berkembang .

Selesai sahaja misa pada pagi tersebut, ia disusuli dengan acara pentas di astaka terbuka. Pelbagai persembahan, tarian dan nyanyian daripada para umat termasuk KKD dipersembahkan.

Pengacara majlis kita yang ceria lagi humor iaitu Angelika Luna dan Arnoldus menghidupkan suasana majlis kita kali ini. Walaupun di bawah sinaran matahari yang terik, ia tidak mengahalang para umat dalam bergembira di hari yang penuh makna ini. Berpenyertaan serta kerjasama para umat telah menjayakan acara tersebut.

Sebagai umat Kristus yang berasal dari pelbagai kaum di Keuskupan Sandakan menjadikan kita unik. Dalam pelayanan, adalah menjadi keutamaan kita untuk bersatu dalam menghidupi iman kepercayaan kita. Dalam perayaan Hari St Dominic kali ini, jelas bahawa para umat mampu menghidupi cinta kasih Yesus.

Order of Franciscan Secular Annual Retreat 2015 ~ 1st Day (31st July 2015)

Sandakan : A total of 133 members of all the 11 local fraternities convened at St Mary's Cathedral to attend the just concluded 3-day Order Franciscanus Saecularis (OFS) Annual Retreat 2015 from 31st July to 2nd August. OFS of St Mary's Cathedral hosted this year's annual event.

The 11 fraternities from across Sabah included the OFS Fraternities of Holy Rosary Church Limbahau, St Joseph's Church Papar, St Francis' Cathedral Keningau, Sacred Heart Cathedral, KK, Our Lady of Fatima's Church Beluran, St Mary's Cathedral Sandakan, St John's Church Tuaran, St Joseph Husband of Mary Kiulu, Church of the Blessed Sacrament Labuan, Stella Maris' Church, Tg. Aru and Holy Cross Toboh Tambunan.

The retreat, themed 'Fraternity is a fundamental element of a Franciscan Life has the following objectives;

To remind all the brothers and sisters of their sense of belonging to our own Order, namely the Order Franciscanus Saecularis or Order Franciscan Secular.
It s also a reminder and renewal of commitment to our profession to the Order, and
It is our opportunity to give praise and thanks to the Almighty God for His blessings.

Fr. Michael Teng, OFM, Cap. the retreat master is a Franciscan priest from the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. He is the current National Spiritual Assistant to the Emerging OFS National Fraternity of Malaysia-Singapore.

After registration, participants attended the Opening Mass, presided over by Fr Thomas Makajil, rector of St Mary's Cathedral, con celebrated by Fr Michael Teng and assisted by Deacon Stanley William Matakim.

In his homily, Fr Thomas reminded OFS members to be intentionally aware of their responsibility as authentic Christ's faithful. To effect change, one need to experience change. We need to be renewed and live life as Christian, individually, in the family and the community. Unless guided and strengthened by the Holy Spirit, our endeavor would be in vain.

He hoped that the 3-day annual retreat at St Mary's Cathedral would provide the right spiritual environment for participants to refresh, renew and re-energize to be better Christian, serving in the vineyard of the Lord.

Family Life Ministry Of HTC Organizes a Session On Consumerism

Tawau : Inspired by the talk on consumerism presented during the Episcopal Regional Christian Family Life Commission (ERCFL) Meeting in April at the Kuala Lumpur Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre, members of the Family Life Ministry of Holy Trinity Parish Tawau took the opportunity to share the session with parishioners.

55 parishioners from the various communities, lay leaders and individuals attended the one and a quarter hour session on 9^th August from 12.30 pm to 1.45 pm at the Church Basement Room.

The awareness session was presented by Mario Domingo, the Family Life Ministry chairman of Holy Trinity Parish Tawau. He shared on the meaning and the effect of consumerism on family and individual. 'This idea of consumerism is in all of us, it is a kind of inner force that overwhelmed us in matter of consuming things without end and real purpose. This acquisitive manner has caused us and our families to become materially attached and enslaved,' he said.

The program run by the Family Life Ministry of Holy Trinity Parish Tawau started May last year. Over time, the parishioners are getting familiar with this session and its value. Talks covered since May last year:

2. Relationship in Family

3. The effect of Globalization towards family

4. To whom am I created for

5.The effect of consumerism

Participants responded that the program is very beneficial and spiritually informative. It should be continued for the good of all families and individuals. Family need to be reminded of any 'unaware' environment or influences that may silently threaten families

The interactive session saw an active participation of the attendees and concluded with some light refreshment prepared by the ministry.

KPIP SANDAKAN JALANI LATIHAN FASILITASI PERTAMA

SANDAKAN: Komiti Pembangunan Insan Paroki (KPIP) Katedral St. Mary, Sandakan telah menjalani Latihan Fasilitasi Peringkat Pertama pada Ahad, 26hb Julai 2015 bertempat di Bilik Mesyuarat Pejabat Belia Keuskupan Sandakan.

Tujuh daripada 12 orang ahli KPIP dapat hadir ke latihan ini. Fasilitator utama adalah Francis Tan selaku Ex-Officio kepada Komisi Pembangunan Insan Keuskupan (KPIK) Sandakan dan dibantu oleh Shirley Joseph iaitu Setiausaha bagi KPIK.

Sesi latihan tersebut telah dimulakan dengan Topik Pengenalan iaitu 'Apa itu Fasilitasi Kumpulan?' yang telah dikongsikan oleh Shirley. Antara input yang telah diketengahkan ialah:-

Sesi mendalami latihan ini disampaikan oleh Francis dengan Topik 'Peranan Seorang Fasilitator'. Topik ini membawa para ahli KPIP untuk mengetahui tentang:-

Pada akhir latihan tersebut Hildi Poili sebagai Pengerusi KPIP berterima kasih atas sesi latihan yang telah disampaikan oleh Francis dan Shirley. Beliau berharap agar semua ahli KPIP dapat mengaplikasi pengetahuan dan kemahiran yang diperolehi dalam pelayanan mereka di mana-mana kumpulan di gereja dan dalam pekerjaan sehari-hari. KPIP Sandakan membuat rancangan bertemu demi membincangkan persediaan Sambutan Hari Migran Peringkat Keuskupan Sandakan yang akan berpusat di Paroki Katedral St. Mary, Sandakan pada tahun ini. Sesi Latihan telah ditutup dengan doa yang telah dipimpin oleh Francis.

2015年青年假日营--执委感言

筹委会主席- 杨国权Stephen：

筹备了大概7个月的时间，运用了华文组最大的资源，造就了这一次历年来实属难得一办的青年假日营。犹记得在筹备的起起落落中，自身的情绪起伏不定，压力非常的大。但是见到果实竟然是如此的甘甜时，所有的付出都是值得的。在此非常感谢天主，成全了我们的生活营；也非常感谢来自砂拉越诗巫教区的江宗欢神父和全体执委同仁，给予各方面的鼎力支持；当然也不能忘记感谢所有的圣职人员和华协理事给予的教导和辅助。从这次的生活营当中，让我体会最深的就是：要扮演好“盐”的角色，就要身体力行，多把时间投入教会，并且多向长辈学习，了解教区和堂区的运作，进而帮助青年回归耶稣的怀抱。

女营长-黄学藯Maisei：

话说山打根圣玛莉主教座堂的华文青年团很久也没有举办这么大型的生活营了。原本预算只有80人参加的青年营，可是到最后所参加的人数却过百人，出乎大家的意料。这次生活营的营长，说容易，也不容易当；说难，也不难。从筹备到结束，过程可说是参杂不同的滋味。我要感谢大家，让我有这个机会担任营长，学习当营长的责任。生活营进行的时候，也非常感谢筹委及营员的配合，让整个3天2夜的生活营能够顺利地进行，尤其是来自斗湖及亚庇的兄弟姐妹，更是长途跋涉地从各自的地方来支持并参加我们的生活营。赖天主的仁慈，生活营终于圆满结束了。大家在离营的那一天，手中都持了一部相机，为了让照片能留下那最美好的一刻。

副秘书- 陈乐瑶Cecilia：

因为今年是我中学生涯的最后一年，所以上大学就看这张文凭了。原本不想参加这筹备工作的，但是参加后，我又开始想念了。从筹备到正式活动，我们的关系好像从教友升级到家人。我很感谢主席给我这次机会，为我增加了美好的回忆。看着营员们享受的模样，我有很大的成就感。谢谢其他筹委的包容和协助，让我获益良多。最后，我很庆幸能参与此项活动。很开心，真的。

歌咏组主任-罗莉莉Lily Lopez：

半年前的准备工作，由开会练歌、清洁到排练游戏的过程都不容易。两个堂口的合作有磨擦、误会，但是在爱的团体里面，我看到大家放下自己的怒火和偏见，只为了办好生活营，这个是让我最感动的地方。整个3天2夜生活营，我特别喜欢晚祷，暗暗的，不必理会别人的眼光,整个世界只剩下我跟耶稣。
大家的相聚是天主给的特别缘分，尤其是那个玩得、跳得、讲得的神父,给我们很多惊喜。。。相信后会有期就会有。。。是吗?

这是我第一次参与生活营, 第一次参加就能当上摄影师, 感觉很新颖也很紧张, 因为害怕做不好自己的本分。但很感恩的是每个筹委都给予了我很多的关心, 营员们也很热情, 才能让我很快地融入这个假日营里。下一次, 我一定一定一定一定一定肯定保证一定会再参与的! 感谢每个美好的你们~

感谢主，让我这渺小的一颗盐可以为这3天2夜的生活营添加多一点的味道。感谢每一位的筹委的合作、付出，好让一切顺利进行。这是我们青年团首次举办这么大型的生活营，也很感谢外地远道而来的营员们给予的支持。更不忘了谢谢我们来自诗巫的讲师江宗欢神父。最后再次谢谢大家使到这营顺利及圆满结束，希望透过这次的生活营能够让青年们更踊跃为身边的人和教会添加更多的色彩和味道。

总务-胡伟行Nicholas:

这 3 天 2 夜的青年假日生活营，首先最想说的是美好的时间都过得太快了，筹备了几乎半年的工作，3天内就结束了。这一次的营，让我认识更多的主内兄弟姐妹，也让我们彼此之间的感情更上一层楼！当然也少不了我们众爱的天父爸爸，我和祂的感情也更深了。付出给教堂，换来一切的感情，值得！这次的生活营很顺利，身为这次营里的总务和歌咏组的吉他手，我很满足也很开心。只能说，听什么歌都好，教堂的歌是最有感觉和亲切感！要说的话也说不完啦，最后，感谢天父给我们的一切，阿门。

【我要做世上的盐】

山打根圣玛莉主教座堂华协属下青年团于7月17至19日，举办了2015年山打根青年假日生活营，主题为【我要做世上的盐】最终在泪水与欢笑声中圆满结束！

此为期三天两夜的生活营，在圣玛莉主教座堂举行，共获得约百人参加，顿时让圣玛莉主教座堂热闹非凡，场面热闹。

第一天，营员们报到后就参加当日的开幕弥撒。这一次的生活营把开幕礼安排在当天第一台弥撒结束后举行，由多位华协常务出席支持。华协主席卢姵伶姐妹在致欢迎词时表示，青年要有活力，并鼓励他们在这3天2夜的生活营中好好学习。之后，特邀嘉宾江宗欢神父主持了简单却隆重的开幕仪式。

午餐后，大家回到活动中心玩破冰游戏，工委则融入其中，负责带动营员投入游戏。过后的环节是工委自我介绍，大家都出尽法宝，用了各种创意的方法介绍自己和自身的工作岗位。

讲座部分非常之有趣，主讲人江神父以轻松搞笑的方式开始讲谈，同时也与在场的营员们进行互动。当中江神父也要求营员们排练一出模拟表演，借此表演让他们从中学习到一些知识，一并体验使我们远离耶稣的种种世俗的阻碍。

第二天，营员们参与各式各样的活动比如：早操、听讲座、歌唱赞美等，玩得非常尽兴。而当天的精彩之处是过关斩将环节，让营员们在教堂区内玩各式各样的游戏，条件是他们必须在指定的时间内将所得到的线索把“偷盐”小偷给揪出。如此刺激又考脑力的游戏，让所有营员直呼非常好玩！

晚上时分，假日营焦点之一的营火会也让营员们玩得非常投入。大火猛烈的燃烧也激起了一班年轻人火热的心。工委也设了多项集体游戏，连同歌唱舞蹈，让当晚的气氛活跃起来。罗莉莉姐妹在带领歌唱赞美时说：“我们每一个人，就好比如一根材。我们可以像火把一样单独燃烧，可是当我们每一根木材放在一起的时候，燃烧起来的那一把火，可以给予我们身边的人无限的温暖。我们在教会服务，也要把‘每一根木材放在一起’，这样，我们就更加有力量继续走下去！”这一番话，听在每个工委和营员的耳里，格外温馨！

来到最后一天，营员和工委背着疲累的身躯，在一大清早醒来。梳洗完后，便准备参加当天的主日弥撒。之后，回到活动中心享用早餐。

享用完早餐后，不知不觉生活营已经来到尾声，大家围成一个圆圈，分享在这三天活动所学习与体会到一点一滴。

分享环节让大家开始感到不舍，但由于时间紧迫，没能让每一位营员都分享。营员们得回到各自的宿舍打扫连同收拾行李，过程中大家都有说有笑，并由全体工委负责看顾营员们的打扫进度。

紧接着的流程就是闭幕典礼，由男营长担任司仪。在筹委会主席杨国权兄弟、青年团顾问黄士南兄弟以及江神父致词后，神父带领着一众营员，向工委们至上最真诚的谢意，唱歌感谢他们，让工委们措手不及流下感动的眼泪。最后，大家都给彼此一个鼓励的拥抱，2015年山打根青年假日营【我要做世上的盐】也正式宣布结束。
