34TH ANNIVERSARY STAR OF YAHWEH COVENANT COMMUNITY (SYCC) SANDAKAN

Sandakan Parish; Saturday, 18.08.2018 was a very significant day for SYCC (Star of Yahweh Covenant Community) as they were celebrating their 34^th anniversary in a simple way but meaningful to everyone’s hearts. A thanksgiving mass was celebrated by our Lordship Rev. Julius Dusin Gitom during the sunset mass and thereafter a thanksgiving dinner at one of the restaurants in Sandakan with some invited guests; the religious sisters, parish priest Rev. Fr. David Garaman, Rev. Fr. Stanley, Pilis Malim chairman of Parish Pastoral Committee as well as SYCC friends.

The community members had grown maturity as one of the communities in the parish as they strengthen their faith formation during their general community meeting every Friday, at 8.00 pm at the parish hall. Besides, they also help out in every activity in the parish such as in the church choir, MRSM, Sekolah Seni and Momfort boys monthly fellowship, Single Adult fellowship, Life in the Spirit Seminar etc.

This 34^th anniversary was very significant, as Bro. Philip Mosinoh accepting the call from the Lord to be the next Presiding Elder of SYCC, after Bro. Michael Lee had to pass the baton to him since it is a high time to give a way to the other elder to shepherd the community. Yet, Bro. Michael Lee will still be one of the elders in the community.

During his speech, Bro. Michael Lee shared about the living lifestyle of SYCC for the past 34^th anniversary that has been united to serve the Lord and love one another as brothers and sisters. Indeed, a great commitment to the Lord as His people, though the challenges and difficulties that demand conversion, sacrifice and building relationship as the members come from different walks of life, different background, races, age, profession as well as the culture. He also added, fellowship and sharing are essential to strengthen the bond as Jesus gathers the community as one body. He encouraged the community to recommit each one another as the people of the Lord which is easier to work as a team in different ministry.

Besides, this community’s life should be living through righteous and holiness. He also emphasized that living in the community is also to help and serve other communities in the parish by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, particularly helping the church. He extended his profound gratitude to the elders and members of the community who had rendered assistance and supported him during his service as a presiding elder throughout the years. Towards the end of his speech he announced the next Presiding Elder of SYCC, Bro. Philip Mosinoh while Bro. Michael Tivit would be officially one of the elders in SYCC. Rev. Fr. David witnessed during the signing of Bro. Philip as the Presiding elder and laid hands upon him for blessing.
