TELUPID – “Fokus hari ini bukan sekadar pada segi fizikal bangunan yang dihias indah tetapi adalah lebih kepada pembangunan komuniti tempatan. Gereja akan makmur sekiranya umat hidup dalam kesaksian menyebar ‘Berita Gembira’ kepada yang lain”, demikian pesanan Bapa Uskup Julius Dusin Gitom dalam perutusan sempena Ulang Tahun Ke-50 Kapela Santo Fidelis, Kiabau.

Terletak 43 kilometer dari Pekan Telupid, dengan hanya 13 km jalan berturap dan selebihnya masih menggunakan jalan batu kelikir menjadi titik sejarah apabila umat di sini merayakan 50 tahun penyebaran agama Katolik di terima hampir keseluruhan penduduk Kampung Kiabau.

Mengimbas kembali Jubli Emas (1961–2011) yang dirayakan ini, Bapa Uskup turut bersyukur kepada orang yang bertanggungjawab dalam membina iman penduduk tempatan di sini iaitu Encik Fidelis Inson, ayah kepada Rev. Fr. Aloysius Fidelis, rektor Gereja St Joseph Papar.

“Walaupun dengan hanya menggunakan Sungai Labuk sebagai jalan perhubungan ketika itu, namun usaha untuk melihat lebih ramai mengenali ‘rencana penyelamatan Tuhan’ telah menjadi kenyataan”, jelas Bapa Uskup.

Bapa Uskup turut menekankan betapa pentingnya Komuniti Kristian Dasar (KKD) itu terus dipraktik melalui konsep yang betul dan berharap KKD akan menjadi simbol kepada kehidupan menggereja setiap komuniti.

Uskup menambah, Perayaan ini juga merupakan satu acara bersejarah dan membuka ruang kepada umat setempat berkumpul demi mengeratkan perhubungan sesama dan yang penting ialah mengukuhkan perhubungan dengan Tuhan.

Sdr. Dedacius Ireneus selaku pengerusi penganjur telah menyampaikan cenderakenangan sebagai tanda penghargaan dan  terima kasih dari umat Katolik Kg. Kiabau kepada para paderi yang telah datang melayani di tempat ini.

Perayaan Liturgi yang diselebrankan oleh Bapa Uskup turut dibantu oleh Fr. Thomas Makajil,rektor Katedral St Mary Sandakan, Fr. Jasery G. Emmanuel, rektor Gereja St Martin Telupid, dan Fr. Marcellinus Pongking, pembantu rektor Gereja St Dominic Lahad Datu. Turut sama ialah Fr. Bruno Yasun, rektor Gereja St. Peter Claver, Ranau.

Seminarian Christopher Irenius dan Warren Peter yang berasal dari St. Fidelis juga turut bersama merayakan sambutan ini.

Fr. Jasery turut bangga dengan usaha serta kerjasama yang ditunjukkan oleh umat di St. Fidelis yang dikuatkan dengan semangat pelayanan, sesuai dengan motto diosis ‘Melayani Sesama Dengan Kasih Allah’.

Pengerusi Penganjur, Didacius Ireneus merakamkan terima kasih terutama Bapa Uskup yang sudi bersama dengan umat di St. Fidelis lebih-lebih lagi dalam sejarah perayaan Jubli Emas. Juga kepada Paderi yang turut sama yang akan memberi semangat baru kepada umat di sini untuk terus teguh dalam iman.

Walter Fidelis Inson sedang menerima Cenderakenangan, pemberian daripada Komuniti Umat Katolik St. Fidelis Kiabau sempena Jubli Emas. Walter hadir bagi pihak ayahnya Fidelis Inson yang tidak dapat datang. Penghargaan dan terima kasih ini telah disampaikan oleh Dedacius Ireneus selaku pengerusi penganjur perayaan Jubli emas.

Selesai perayaan liturgi, acara diteruskan di dewan orang ramai untuk makan bersama dan persembahan pentas.

Bapa Uskup menyempurnakan upacara perasmian perayaan dengan paluan gong sebanyak 3 kali.

MAJLIS PERAYAAN JUBLI EMAS DI DEWAN KG. KIABAU

Bapa Uskup memotong kek perayaan sempena ulangtahun ke-50 St. Fidelis Kiabau. Umat Katolik menjamu selera sementara persembahan koir dari ibu-ibu Katolik Kiabau.

Pesta Kaamatan Peringkat Paroki St Martin, Telupid

TELUPID (22 Mei): Perayaan Pesta Kaamatan Peringkat Paroki yang diadakan di Chapel St. Mary, Kg. Wonod telah dihadiri lebih kurang 300 umat terdiri dari masyarakat pelbagai kaum.

Misa Kudus Kaamatan dirayakan oleh Bapa Uskup Julius Dusin Gitom dan Fr. Marcellinus Pongking selaku Paderi Paroki bermula 10.00 pagi.

Melalui tema pada tahun ini iaitu ‘Budaya Berkomuniti Berpusatkan Kristus’, Bapa Uskup sekali lagi menjemput umat untuk memfokuskan nilai hidup Yesus Kristus yang membawa erti ‘Sumber Hidup’ dalam komuniti.

“Kenyataan ini sangat jelas, namun bukan mudah untuk mencapai jika kita tidak beri perhatian maksud tema ini supaya menjadi amalan budaya harian”, jelasnya.

Bapa Uskup amat gembira melihat Pesta Kaamatan kini perlahan-lahan telah menjadi wadah Sabda Tuhan untuk sampai ke pendengaran umat dan umat kristian mempunyai sebab untuk bersyukur dan berpesta kerana berjaya menemukan “mesej Tuhan”.

 Selepas misa, umat beredar ke sebuah khemah yang dibuat khas berhampiran chapel hasil gotong royong dimana acara pentas diadakan. Dengan kehadiran pemimpin masyarakat tempatan dapat juga merasakan suasana makan bersama yang menjadi lambang kesatuan dalam Kristus lebih-lebih lagi kehadiran Bapa Uskup.

Turut hadir ialah Pengerusi MPPT, Albert Matusin, Pengerusi Pelaksana Kaamatan Peringkat Paroki, Jikol Gambud, Pemaju Mukim Liwogu Jonybone Kurum serta Ketua Kampung Wonod, Taikong Gawah.

Care for the environment - a common responsibility

Telupid : "We cannot remain indifferent to what is happening around us, for the deterioration of any one part of the planet affects us all," the pope said in his message for World Peace Day, at the start of 2010. The pope pleaded  to "all believers to raise a fervent prayer to God, the all-powerful creator and the father of mercies, so that all men and women may take to heart the urgent appeal: If you want to cultivate peace, protect creation."

Bishop Julius, who was on his way back to Sandakan after giving a talk to participants of the Campus Ministry National Camp at Pace Bene, Papar on 10th May 2010, stopped over at St Martin's Church. Together with Fr Marcel Pongking, the rector of the Church, the prelate planted five Malabar Chestnut, given to him by Bishop Datuk Cornelius Piong of the Diocese of Keningau, at the church's compound the following morning, 11th May.

Malabar Chestnut, makes a suitable indoor potted plants, commonly called money or fortune tree, the stems of which can be braided or could be planted as an outdoor specimen. The pod fruit, contains white seeds which can eaten raw or roasted.  

The principle of the dignity of creation, in accordance with  the Catholic Social Teachings poses a challenge to the people of God to care for the environment. It is a common responsibility of all, who are stewards of mother earth to look after it, as we are instructed to 'cultivate and care for God's Creation' (Gen 2:15).

Bishop Julius' Pastoral Visit to the Parish of St Martin, Telupid

Telupid:  St Martin's Parish of Telupid, some 130 km from Sandakan, is one of the four parishes of the Diocese of Sandakan with some 6,000 Catholics, mostly of the Dusun indigenous people. It covers an area of approximately 14,203 sq kilometers and is currently served by one priest, Fr Marcellinus Pongking, one full time and 30 part time catechists.

                    

Bishop Julius D Gitom made a one day pastoral visit to the said parish, on Sunday 9th May 2010 after attending the 17th Anniversary of the Keningau Diocese at St Anthony's Church, Tenom on Saturday 8th May 2010.

He presided the Eucharistic Celebration of the 6th Sunday of Easter, attended by some 500 parishioners. 

This year some 75 catechumens from the RCIA/RCIC processes were admitted into the community during Easter Sunday. Among them, two neophytes shared their personal experience;

Francisca Saiban, a Christian from another denomination, enrolled in the one year  long RCIA process. Her desire to know more and search further about the Catholic faith was because of her friends in the Youth Choir, who constantly gave her the support and encouragement. She enjoyed the community life of Catholics and would look forward to be always a part of the family.

'I must give credits to my choir member friends, my faith animators, sponsors and parents for accompanying me in my journey of faith. I am now fully involved in the Parish Youth Apostolate.' she added.

Donny David, another neophyte shared that he did not know about God until he took the courage to attend the RCIA process. He attended Holy Mass on Sunday, simply because he liked to be with his friends who were mostly Catholics.

He went on to say, 'Today, I attend mass because I want to be with God. I want to build up my relationship with Jesus Christ. If I follow Him, He will be with me till the end of time.'

The prelate, in his homily said that God chose them (the two young neophytes) to be His witnesses, through the Sacrament of Initiation. Easter is not just about Christ's resurrection but more so, that He lives in us. We therefore need to delve in His living Words, worship Him, come in communion with Him and others as a community and to offer our service to the Lord in building His Kingdom. BECs is one sure way of gathering the People of God together and with that as a 'council' could solve things together for the good of the Church.

The prelate will be in Telupid again on Saturday, 22nd May 2010 attend the  Parish "Pesta Kaamatan.' scheduled to be held at St Mary's Chapel, Kampung Wonod, Mile 4, Telupid.
